Playback Theatre

A group of people gathered around four actors, a musician and a conductor shares their personal stories and witnesses them being immediately enacted, played back to them: this is Playback Theatre. It is an innovative improvisational form of theatre in which we can see our lives being mirrored on the stage, through movement, sound, songs, mime and few words too. Everything happens in a ritualized process, in order to honour the story, suspend the judgement and set a protected space for the tellers to share their story.

We use Playback Theatre as a tool to reconnect with ourselves. Coming back to our body, exploring our boundaries, witnessing our patterns and behaviours, tuning in with the teller's emotions, listening to the story from a neutral space, being present on the stage are chances to stimulate our self-awareness.

What we do on the stage is a reflection of what we do in life, the way we tell a story says something about us, that only we can know.

In our laboratories we experiment our inner world from another perspective: listening to the body, allowing our intuition to guide us and expressing ourselves through our instinct, we leave the identification with our mind aside. In this way we are free to dive within and open to discover something new about ourselves.

Moreover, we are an instrument for the teller (but also for the audience) to reflect on their personal experience and develop their sense of self. By enacting someone else’s story we are at service to them and to the whole community: we are making one’s story everybody’s story.
